I just ran this with my family group. I think it was the most fun I've ever had as a DM and I could tell the rest of the party was having a blast as well. The birth of a character was very impactful and players messaged me leading up to the session on how they knew the character from the past. It helped gel them as a party and created bonds between characters.

The urgency of the mission and the interesting things in the rooms served as a nerve wracking dichotomy for my players who want to investigate every nook and cranny and 'just keep moving on' as they'd say.

The only downside my party had was fighting the spectre in the last battle. the spec had first attack and rolled a nat 20. I rolled to see who it would attack and of course it was the sorcerer. I just used the reg attack damage so not to permakill a lvl 1 character before they could do anything.

I can't say enough good things about this module. I would say it's an absolute MUST run before ToA and could easily be modded into a home campaign with different conditions.

Thank you for this wonderful work!

SUUUUUUCH a better introducton to Tomb of Annihilation than the extremely underwhelming one provided in the book. Not only does it have a nice, low-level (but still epic feeling) dungeon crawl to get your players up to at least Level 2 for Port Nyanzaru, but it actually includes a process for making a character that every member in the party knows and cares about. I adapted it slightly to move the location to an island off the Chult since it fit better with my players' backstories, but otherwise, I used it almost exactly as written.

Fantastic introduction to the adventure. I HIGHLY recommend running this as your intro to Tomb of Annihilation. Players really enjoyed it and it's really simple for the DM to prepare.

I used this to start off the ToA campaign I ran, and it was a great decision! The players all had something to rally behind and it helped add weight to their decisions during the campaign - should we stay on point with the plot point created with "Cellar of Death", or should we go do that other cool thing? The actual decision they made was irrelevant, but since they had to make the decision, they were more invested in the campaign.

Highly recommended if you are going to run a Tomb campaign.

A fun introduction to traps and not needing to kill everything in a dungeon. My player group loved it and appreciated the traps. Easy to prepare too! I can definitely recommend it.

This is a fantastic introductory adventure to welcome newcomers to D&D and it's a very cool way to start Tomb of Annihilation. It serves as a counterpoint of contrasts between the Sword Coast and Chult, shows the level of the stakes (the threat of a lich and flesh golem in your first dungeon is glorious), provides an NPC mid-dungeon to converse with (how much is up to you) - but my group kept that little guy around for 20 sessions - and has one of the most inspired opening scenes (a funeral) for everyone to meet. That first session set the tone (esp. as one of the characters decided in session 0 to be the daughter of the person the group made together) of the campaign for many sessions. Can thoroughly endorse.

Really great classic D&D type dungeon crawler to get your players inititated to the weird world of Chult.

So happy I ran this before starting Tomb of Annihilation. During the NPC creation one of my players asked if the NPC could be their sibling and another asked if the NPC could be their ex. This made for some amazing RP moments later in the jungles of Chult and gave the group a solid reason to risk their lives to stop the death curse.

I do feel like the dungeon crawl drags on a bit. Perhaps that's the downside of using a Dysonlogos map rather than drawing one yourself (which I have also experienced) because you end up having more rooms to fill than you really need. It doesn't really matter though. This module is a must for anyone running Tomb of Annihilation!

Cellar of Death has the best adventure hook ever. No spoilers, but it really united my PCs in a way 'you meet in a tavern' never could. That alone is worth the price of admission, then add a great adventure on top of that. If you are running Tomb of Annihilation it is a must have to kick off your campaign. ToA is a great story, but the intro is just meh without Cellar of Death. It could even stand on its own as a one-shot. Last point, as a member of the Tomb of Annihilation DMs FaceBook group, this adventure is constantly recommended and the buyer is never disappointed.

My players and I very much enjoyed this adventure. I was looking for a way to ease into Tomb of Annihilation, and this adventure did the trick. We have since concluded our Tomb campaign after more than a year of adventuring, but we still talk about "Danny Darkelf," the NPC we created and promptly killed at the start of Cellar of Death.

Cellar of Death if a fine adventure, and it is a great alternate way to start Tomb of Annihilation. Highly recommend!

Had a great time running this introductory adventure to Tomb of Annihilation with my group. The adventure is well laid out and the NPC creation section is excellent. We had one character die but that was mainly because of a 'split the party' situation and if anything it added to the premise of the campaign as a whole. Highly recommend.

Splendid blend of new and old school. The funeral vignette to start is a grest plot hook, and the dungeon seftio offers a timed challenge, ending in a satisfactory end confrontation. Get this, you'll be glad you did.

Ran this as a pre-cursor to ToA campaign. Well put together, a dungeon crawl feel but with a solid reason for the risk ans supports some good tension build-up.
