Sadly I have to say that when this gets updated to Season 8, it will no longer be worth anything more than a 1 or 2 star review. The magic item changes and experience changes are not completely bad and make a few decent changes, but it isn't all good. Plate armor is much harder to obtain, gold is never awarded in game, and spellcasters get shafted for material components of spells. Overall it is just a few good changes overshadowed by a horde of terrible changes.

Since the DM Pack is likely going to be updated with the new season rules, I woould like to point out that the future changes to D&D Adventurers League are horrible.

You claimed to have listened to the community, but apparently you haven't.

I assure you that I'm not against all the changes you would like to implement. Some of them, like buying potions and scrolls and scribing scrolls are quite useful and help to bring more fun at the table.

However, the system of treasure distribution has been made even worse than in the original draft. The fifth edition of the D&D has been always striving toward simplicity, not complexity.

The treasure point system seems to have been implemented harshly and without a thought. LN, TN and CN characters (especially CN ones) lack incentive for adventuring. The adventurer is now very poor compared to the previously created characters without their wealth being wiped.

Plate Armor +1 will no longer be around the new characters while the old characters can simply buy it from the factions before the official release of the rules, since according to the new rules it's only available at tier3+ in table I where better armor can be found.

Trading items is now more complicated since one has to match both the item's rarity and the table the item's in.

With the original draft of the rules, I was largely on your side despite some issues that could have come with them. With the new draft I am no more on your side since the new rules are very, very horrible.

A good way to get started. Has most of the information one would need to get started and earn DM rewards/XP/etc..

Necessary and helpful. I like that the pack itself has everything in one place. Hopefully even more resources will show up in the DM pack in the future.

This is a necessity for running the ToA season. As per usual, concise, complete and an occasionally humourous account of the rules and rulings for the DM for the season.

This is a must if you want to run S6 games, and save up Exp for some character builds.

Easy to follow, and very comprehensive. Well suited to get started DM'ing AL games.

As far as DM rewards are concerned i do wish the DM rewards were better.

PRO:

  • I love this. As a DM coming from 3.0/5, this info and concept is really neat and helpful
  • helps empower the DMs to make their own decisions
  • creates a habit of checking rules that aren't necessarily in the DMG (this led me to join the FB DM group, which has been extremely beneficial)
  • the quests are intriguing, if not necessarily enjoyable in and of themselves
  • encourages good practices/being a responsible DM
  • good updates to general questions, in general (eg, ending treasure for season 6 WPM)

CON:

  • some DM quests are too limiting, reflective of only a small population abusing the rules (eg, dedicated DM)
  • some DM quests rely too much on repetition and fulfillment of uninteresting activities (DMing should be interesting too!)
  • some DM quests rely too much on advertising for WOTC (eg, Ritual of Divination/Scrying). I don't want to advertise for WOTC
  • not enough DM quests
  • not enough rewards for DMing (eg, compare DMing versus playing WPM)
  • not enough incentivizing, especially if someone prefers DMing over playing but still wants to keep up with their friends
  • DM quests/starting items shouldn't end with each season because that punishes DMs for coming into 5th edition later than others. The rewards and items are not powerful enough that they're extremely abusable (eg, starting with 300GP and getting a secret mission after finishing WPM with my players (two separate examples) is not game-breaking. Moreover, ending the DM quests with each season deincentivizes running past modules and hardcovers
