A marvelous ship.

Great looks, this is ship really screams "dangerous", "military", "weapon". You don´t want to end up on he wrong side of this one.

Interior - Well planned design. It has everything, a capable bridge, adequate crew quarters, engineering, cargo hold, life support, artificial gravity, everything checks out. And it looks good too.

Could it be better? Well, since I am a meticolous bastard, I miss a (ghostly looking) cryo chamber for long journeys or space jumps, also I would design the "lifeboats" differently. Maybe like small crafts or shuttles? Well personal opinion.

This is a straight 5 / 5 stars and I love to use it in my campaigns. Masterly done Evil Robot Games!

Ships: Katar Heavy Freighter
Publisher: Evil Robot Games
by Jesper C. [Verified Purchaser]

The Katar Heavy Freighter offers a simple and functional design, very clever made.

The bridge - Generous space and seven stations, including a captains chair. Makes it possible to have both large gaming groups and room for NPCs.

The mess - A little bit small for crews travelling far. Lacks the "cosy feeling" from a home in space.

Crew quarters - I like the fact that everyone has her / his own quarters but have to use facilities outside the room (head, showers and kitchen). It forces people out of their cabin and interact with the others.

Cargo - There is an inner cargo hold for goods demanding atmosphere / gravity. The outside modular container hold can carry at least 40 containers linked to the ship. If the containers are self supported or can use life support from the ship itself, the possibilities are infinite. The containers also provides protection from outside attacks. This is a really good design.

General impression: The design on this ship is one of the best I have seen in a freighter. The Exterior is really good looking and practical. Interiors are a well thought of with life support, gravity, engines, power supply and so on. This is barely seen on deck plans out there. The only things I miss in this ship is a cryo compartment for longer journeys and some passenger / family cabins for people living on their ships or random passengers. And yes, the "artistic finish" could use a little more work.
All in all, this is a weak 5 star but still 5 star ship. I enjoyed this alot.

Thank you ERG for inspiring work.

Ships: Terran Scout
Publisher: Evil Robot Games
by Jesper C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/23/2019 06:33:44

This is all my personal opinion, but the overall impression is a little disappointing. I am looking for good designed deck plans and have purchased the Galaxy Pirate bundles and the ships containing deckplans in there was good work. When I saw that the Terran Scout was released I had higher expectations.

It seems like Evil Robot Games cartographer have been working hard with getting a nice surface finish and light settings. It creates an industrial "worn" look when it comes to the interior of the ship. Nice touch in comparison to the old more "drawn" deck plans. Progression I think.

Then it comes to the design. The ship is badly designed and I would never like to be an adventurer-rogue-trader-space pirate using this "skiff" as a home between the stars. For instance, there are not much space in the crew nor the captains cabins. Just beds / bunks. Cargo hold is in between crew quarters and ships mess. The mess is poorly drawn and don´t bring up anything good for me to say. It just feels meh. No or little furnishing makes it feel that something is missing. It might work as an "opposing force" skiff.

Cargo hold, too small and with no cargo ramp or dock.

The prow: what´s going on there? Is it a working staton? Dock?

The scale on the drawing on lower and higher deck differs, this is both confusing and annoying.

On the plus side there is the bridge. Nice work with both looks and design. I enjoyed this and it feels like a good base of operations when it comes to space fighting and just flying casually.

Overall personal opinion: Nice finish but poorly and a hasty designed ship / skiff. It feels fast made with not much thoughts on the design. I have seen better from ERG and hope I will in the future. 3 stars out of five for the finish.

Creator Reply:
Jesper, thanks for the review, everyone's opinions can help us make a better product in the long run. I can rescale the lower deck equal to the bridge map and just dump engineering on another page. That ought to reconcile the scale issue. We actually made the bunks cramped on purpose. There's an article on our website about getting the most out of a tier 1 ship and part of that was going with the common crew quarters. I also went on a podcast and walked through the same design choices as the article. Now enough about the Scout, if you take at our Facebook page the Terran Frigate is a work in progress right now and at over 300ft long we expect it to take up two 24x36 posters per deck and it has two decks. There's a control room you could park a shuttle in or have a firefight with a boarding party. Again thanks for being a valued customer and for taking the time to let us know what you think of the product.

I personally liked this product alot. It contains 8 well designed deckplans of mixed military and civilian vessels. External design: I find the "looks" of the ships from the outside awesome, with the perfect mix of maritime and "spacey" layout. They have a conceptual design which combines both militant aggressiveness and a recognizable classic sci-fi look. They feel inspired and are a mixed breed from the best space movies and series and if I was a member of a crew getting them on my sensor monitors I would feel the same fear being in the ocean, spotting a great white shark 50 yards away. 5 of 5 stars.

Interior design: Looking at the interiors, the layout is well designed and everything has it´s purpose. It doesn´t feel cozy or snug, but has more of a functional touch. Some of the prints have a little dash of "home made" over them, but it didn´t bother me much. I prefer a good imagination on my and my players behalf, than an over worked schematic that doesn´t leave anything to your own imaginative power. Let alone being hard to change or adjust. This is better than many, well worth its money. 4 of 5 stars.

Contacts with publisher: I have been in touch with the publisher and they were both serious and accomodating regarding my concerns. They also answered quickly. 5 / 5 stars.

At last I can vouch for this product and would gladly pay it´s 30 - 40 USD price. This bundle will give me much inspiration and regarding my players: fear and wonder. I will also follow the development of Evil Robot Games and most certainly buy their deck plans when they publish more material.

Nice deck plan / architecture and a great looking design. I like that they have a place on the map for life support and also the weapon spaces scattered over the layout. The product also contains a picture inside what I assume is the bridge, nice touch. I would gladly pay 4-5 USD for this product and similar ones. And of course more if it was a larger ship (more work is worth more money).

One of my personal favourites. Excellent craftsmanship, nicely done deck plans, perfect for inspiration or giving your PCs a good sense of their fabolous military space ship. Also the deck plans of the small crafts like the tank and the fighters gives you a nice feeling. For me, as a sci fi gamemaster a "must have".

I thought the preview over the deck plan was a preview and that there was more to this product than it really was. Maybe its me but just one deck, and a pretty small one i might add, doesnt do it for me. I was disappointed. One good thing though was the 360 panorama view of the bridge. Cool feature and thats why it gets 2 stars.

Maybe I expected too much but I wanted something in the style of ki-ryn studios or 0 hour. It just feels... petty, small and not enough material. Its good looking yes, I´ll give it that but far from my expectations.
