It's good set of maps, but there is one large problem. There is one set of stairs from level "0" to level "10". As shipped, these stairs go up/down in a circular fashion. There is a portcullis guarded landing on each level, but players can simply ignore all of them and go straight to the top. I didn't pick up on this until game time. It was rather annoying. This problem is easily rectified by repurposing rooms on various floors as stairwells, but it would have been nice if this wasn't necessary.

0one's products are universally good. For less than two dollars you get a nice professional image, usually able to be opened in Photoshop for modification to fit your own adventures, and which projects and prints nicely. One major advantage is that they deliver what they promise at a small price and download footprint.

An RPG Resource Review:

The intention of this book, and others in the series, is to provide the DM with a ready-made map of a given location which he can drop into a suitable place in his campaign world to suit the story he has in mind. It's set up so that he can populate the buildings, and work out what's going on... and indeed be inspired by the layout to come up with a good story, perhaps a whole adventure based around the site.

Technically, the actual plans are clearly presented in a more simple form than other 0one Games maps. They are line maps, presented in both blue on white and black on white format - the blue version being a tribute to early TSR dungeons modules, which had the inside cover removeable and printed with a blue on white map of the dungeon for the DM's use. Both versions are done as 'vector graphics' which, if you're not technical, means that they can be enlarged or reduced without losing definition. Moreover, each page has a row of checkboxes which you can use to vary the presentation to suit your particular needs. They allow you to choose to have the walls solid colour or in outline (to save ink), as well as whether or not to display the scale grid, room furniture or room numbers.

The mountain keep has 10 levels from ground floor to the rooftops, as well as a couple of underground levels. Unsurprisingly, the underground levels are fitted out as a gaol, while the ground floor is guardrooms and barracks with a well-defended entrance way. Of course, it's left to you who lives - or lived - here, and where and why the place was built in the first place. Think narrow mountain pass, perhaps, where anyone travelling by will have to be identified and maybe taxed by the occupants of the keep before they are allowed to pass. But is it an official guard post on the outskirts of empire, or a bandit stronghold on a trade route?

Higher levels provide accommodation for the inhabitants, including some 'state apartments' and an 'audience hall' for whoever the big shot around here might happen to be - and even a couple of high-level terraces where people can take the air undisturbed by anyone outside the keep.

Finally, there's a reference sheet you can use to write in descriptions and other details of each room. All in all, it's a worthwhile addition to a DM's collection of resources, leaving you free to concentrate on the creative and descriptive parts of your craft.

Another simple and straight forward map of a keep. It is pretty custom - spanning the entire pass - but it is just begging to be filled and I am sure my players would love it.

LIKED: Very good value.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
This product is very good and very well done. The presentation is splendid. The usefulness of this is a bit more limited than usual for this series of products, but that did not keep me from buying it. In fact, after buying it, I made a spot in my campaign to fit it.

Very well done.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
The map itself is well done - I can see how it would be great for any other complex. However the design of the Keep is rather boring. Horrible as a comment as this is to make, but it seemed a little too practical. I can just imagine going from bedroom to bedroom clearing the place out - it would probably be better as a home base type map.

LIKED: Great presentation.

DISLIKED: Uninspired design.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
Generally, not an original, but a very cool product.

LIKED: It's a simple PDF. It goes into just one building. It's a minor nitpick, though.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
I like this product quite a bit. I'm an "old school" gamer and the look of these maps bring back a lot of good memories. Too much time is spent now days makeing maps look pretty without taking into account function (WoTC is a great example of poor maps I think). Very fancy, but a nightmare to map out. I would rather have a nice looking map (and these definitly look professional) thats functional over something that looks like it should be hanging on my wall.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Keep on the Mountain Pass is a simple little product that delivers what it promises.

Inside are a legend and a 13 level keep that is wedged into a mountain pass. The maps come in both the traditional blue of old D&D modules and the more current black.

The product appears to have been built in layers and allows you to toggle on or off.

Fill Furniture Grids Numbers

Of course these toggles are on each page so you can configure each map differently.

LIKED: Large adventure site for little cost Customization of the map (with toggles)

DISLIKED: Somewhat repetitious in look (but it is a keep and not a dungeon)

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
