I ordered a print on demand copy and the first 150 pages of the book are the Sword of Cepheus rpg system with only the back pages being the actual adventure. Is this normal?

Hi Marius, that is absolutely not normal. There's not much I can do about it from the publisher side, unfortunately. Can you try submitting a refund/reprint request through DriveThru's support system? https://support.drivethrurpg.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hi. I plan on running this adventure with 7th Sea 1st edition. Is there anywhere like a Discord where fans of it can chat about it?

Hi, I have an issue with the pdf where all images appear to be cut in slices and distorted. Is the file corrupted or what?

I tried several, on Mac it renders correctly only with Foxit and on iPad only with the Dropbox app. I'm surprised, this is the only file of the hundreds I own that gives me a problem. I normally use Preview on Mac and Good Notes 5 on iPad.

Hi Will and Alzred, I've just uploaded a revised PDF that should fix all the issues you're reporting (and some you haven't reported).

In the download there are two files, be careful to check the new version, not the old one.

I'm really keen to run this adventure, however I am (legally) blind and experiencing some accessibility issues.

Firstly, for reasons I'm unclear on, text does not invert colour when Adobe's preferences are set to do so (i.e. text stays black rather than changing to white when the background colour changes to black). This is not the end of the world as the text is still readable via screen reader, but as I can still read white on black I do like to have the option.

The second and more pressing issue is that there a number of pages where the pages are actually images, despite being text. The pages in question are 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 32, 45, and 46. There could be a couple others if the pages with maps contain text insets. As the PDF is protected (well done on that, most publishers don't) I am unable to run text recognition on them. Are you able to provide an updated version where text recognition has been run on those pages? An RTF version would be even better, but I can understand why...See more

Hi Jed,

Thanks for bringing these issues to my attention. Kidnap the Archpriest was a relatively early work for both me and my editor. Since then, we've both learned a lot about making better PDFs. I believe that Magical Industrial Revolution, for example, includes all the accessibility features you've listed and more. Some of the pages in KtA had to be published as images because of the limits of our own abilities at the time. :)

If a remastered Kidnap the Archpriest is ever released, everyone who purchased the original will get a copy.

I hope it is. I've just had a brainwave solution for myself, so I think I can work around it for now.

As a purchaser of Magical Industrial Revolution I can confirm you are correct. I should leave a review on it, because it is a fantastic book!

How long does this adventure take? I'm looking for a heist adventure that would be no more than 4-6 hours.

Playtests varied, but ~5-6 hours seems about right. I'd recommend ~3 hrs for city exploration and planning and 2-3hrs for the actual heist (depending on the speed of the plan).

Soooo awesome. Just bought the PDF. This has been one of the products I've really been looking forward to picking up.

Quick question: With Tomb of the Serpent Kings serving as a great example dungeon, and with Kidnap the Archpriest serving as an awesome example city adventure, are there any plans for making a wilderness adventure of the same caliber? It'd be so cool to have all 3 major bases covered.

Hi Anna, it looks like that table got rolled into the Archpriest Vice Table on pg. 22 at some point. Sorry about that.

I suppose the twist is that there's no table. Truly, a revelation worthy of M. Night Shyamalan.

Maybe it's just me, but I bought the PDF and it's missing some of the pages and images. Specifically, things like the NPC schedule page and the time tracker page.

Hi Ivan, that's odd. I've checked the file and everything seems to be in place. The NPC schedule pages should be on PDF pp.18-20. The time tracker page should be PDF pg. 51. Is it possible that you're using an older PDF viewer?

I think it is something with the PDF images and tables--they don't show up in Preview on Mac, but they do show up in Adobe (but if someone stores their PDFs in iBooks they are forced to open them in Preview). Did you flatten the PDF?

Right, I was using Preview (and I tried a couple other ones as well) but it did show up using Adobe. What does "flatten" the PDF do, and how do I do that?

I've had the same problem, Ivan, when viewing this pdf on a Mac using Preview. Pages 18-20, the top half of page 30, the lower left of pages 34,38 and all of pages 42, 46-47, 49 are missing. Unclear if any info from the bottom of page 41 is missing.

If I open the file in Chrome, it's possible to see the missing art.

I'm sure I just can't find it but does it say how long this usually takes to run? One-shot? I'm looking for one shots to play at a reunion and this seemed really interesting to have as a choice.

Playtests varied between 4 and 8 hrs. You can definitely play this module as a one-shot, but I'd make sure you have pre-generated characters. I'd also encourage choosing rumours and vital NPCs ahead of time to ensure the players don't spend too much time planning and scheming before acting.

I came here after watching QuestingBeast's YouTube review of this product.
The parallel timelines of the different characters reminded me of Zelda Majora's Mask on the N64, where going back to the start of a 3 day time loop is the mechanic in which the game is based upon. Also; I found the heist mechanic to be novel, and something I wanted to explore for integration into my own campaign.

I share the quibble about the pages of text that are primarily tables being very fuzzy and hard to read (I've got poor eyesight). I hope you'll be able to reset those pages as better quality at some time in the future. It does limit the utility of some of the sections for me.

I like that the resource of Time is stressed. In "old school" games, time was considered so much more important. As a DM in AD&D for many years, I would count time that torches burnt for, how much food characters had on them, and how many arrows had been expended.

My currently preferred system is...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
