Why can't I actually save a copy of the filled in Monster Card pdf? Adobe tells me "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form."

Hi William! I'm not positive what could be causing that -- there aren't any saving limitations baked into the original. It's a standard PDF with form-fillable boxes added. I just tested it on my end and it let me save the filled-in PDFs, so I wonder if it's a temporary issue with Adobe that could be resolved with quitting the app or a restart? Let me know if there's anything I might be able to do to help. You can reach me at: kelsey@thearcanelibrary.com

I just bought these; they're exactly what I was looking for! I'm excited to start using them. I printed all the prefilled monsters already.

I am starting to use the form-fillable pdfs to make cards for other monsters in the modules I'm running. The text is not resizing, like they did in your prefilled cards, both the printer-friendly monster templates and spell cards (the only templates I've used so far). I'm using Acrobat Reader on a Mac. Is this working as intended?

Specifically the monster name, and the spell names on the leveled spell card. I've made do for now.

I'm so excited to use these cards tonight!

Hi Rachel! I'm so sorry I missed this until now, I didn't get an alert via DTRPG that you had asked a question!

The form-fillable PDFs have auto-resizing text (down to a certain size) in most fields, but some weird quirks can cause them not to work. The #1 culprit I've found (as a Mac user myself) is that if you accidentally open the PDF file using the built-in PDF reader, Preview, it it turns out that it strips out the file's ability to auto-resize the text.

Bizarre, and I'm not sure why that happens, but the only fix I've found is to re-download a fresh copy of the file and be careful to avoid opening it in Preview. You can set a file's default PDF reader by clicking on it once in Finder, hitting Command + i, and choosing the default "open with" option. That helps avoid Preview issues.

I'm not sure if that's the cause of the file not working as expected in your case, but it's definitely a common pitfall.

Let me know if that helps or if the text...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
