Introducing new rules variations to power your Mythic adventures! Mythic Variations 2 is a collection of rules modifications for Mythic Role Playing and Mythic Game Master Emulator, giving players a new way to experience GM-less and solo role playing.

Mythic Variations 2 expands on the core Yes/No mechanic of Mythic, splitting questions into 5 separate types of questions, or Checks, including:

• FATE CHECK: To answer any Yes/No Question, exactly as was done with Mythic's Fate Chart except now without the chart.
• DETAIL CHECK: This is used to answer any plain language Question and it replaces the Complex Question from Mythic Variations.
• EVENT CHECK: This Check is to determine an event that is happening, has happened, or will happen. It replaces the Random Event roll from original Mythic.
• BEHAVIOR CHECK: This Check is to determine the specific actions of NPCs on a round-to-round or as needed basis. It is rolled to determine an NPC’s behavior.
• STATISTIC CHECK: This Check is used to determine game statistics for NPCs and other crunchy elements of your adventure.

Mythic Variations 2 makes Mythic more useful than ever, tackling any question you might throw at it and giving your characters the kinds of adventures they deserve!

Does Mythic Variations 2 replace the Mythic GM Emulator? I'm hoping so because I only want the one book to aid me in solo roleplaying.

Effectively, yes it does. If you so choose. Mythic Variations 2 is designed to be an all-in-one GM emulator, replacing the original Mythic Emulator with a chartless method and more ways to answer questions. The book is designed with the assumption that you have Mythic and are familiar with its concepts, so it doesn't spend much space explaining core ideas, just crunch. You can either take some of the ideas from MV2 and sprinkle them into your Mythic games, or use all of MV2 to replace the previous Mythic emulator method.

There is a little bit of redundant material in MV2 that repeats what is in the Mythic Emulator book, but this was done for the reason that you state: so you have all the information you need in a single book.

Are you going to release a print copy of this book My uncle is an avid supporter of this system and would love to purchase a compilation of all of the mythics into one collection which I would be more than happy to compile and prepare for you free of charge if you'd be open to that, he just wants to support your work :)

Yes, a print version is in the works. It's gotten held up because of some printing issues, so I'm having to tool the file a bit.

I'm glad your uncle enjoys Mythic :) I actually have a Mythic Second Edition in the works that will incorporate all the volumes into one book. It'll likely also include the Crafter series books. I plan for this to be a really nice, deluxe edition of Mythic, with some fine tuning on the rules. Much of what is most different is already in Mythic Variations 2, but the second edition will put everything in one volume and tidy it all up a bit. It's in the works, with an ETA of within this year, I hope. There is at least one other book ahead of it in the pipeline.

That's great news! I'm currently learning the first edition to run villians solo to create their back stories. Is there a mailing list to find out when the next edition gets released or beta?

I don't have an estimate on when it'll be out, but the best way to get news on it would be to join the Mythic fan group at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Mythic_Role_Playing/info where things like this get discussed or sign up for the Email News on the Mythic website at http://wordmillgames.com/

Good luck with your Villains game :)

I like it a lot. That said all the necessary info is spread all over the book. It would be nice to have a short summary of the checks. In the middle of play it's hard to keep all those check procedures in mind.

Just wanted to give my 10-minute initial glance reaction: I bought this instantly because I love and own all the Mythic books.
My expectations were high for this one, but I was never sure if it was going to be a full rewrite of the original (a new Mythic from scratch) or additional rules which do not break the old. Turns out they are optional rules which add-on and replace. As with all Mythic rules, just take what you want and ignore what you don't.

-The intentions to have 5 checks is noble. The book pretty much gets into the weeds on how to run these checks.
-It feels odd that 3d10 is the main dice roll mechanic.
-It seems less streamlined compared to the original rules to juggle with roll modifiers, chaos factor, and more charts. This is the opposite of it intention.
-There are loads of detailed examples because on first read, the rules seem too abstract and complicated. The new proprietary definitions are hard to memorize as well, but maybe I am just getting old.

I've printed out a small pamphlet of the appendix to use as a reference. This is enough to use the extra rolls without bogging down play.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
