Grunk's Lair - Generic Virtual Tabletop Edition

A Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e mini-adventure site for 3-4 Characters of Level 1 or 2

Grunk the Ogre: 26 Tokens in setIn a cave on the banks of a forest stream, dwells a constantly grumpy old Ogre called Grunk. This old Ogre spends his days fishing or arguing with himself over the mundane – be they real or imagined – trivial things that trouble the muddled minds of Ogres. Occasionally Grunk ventures out from his hovel in search of something to add a little spice to his cooking pot. Which he usually finds in the form of an unfortunate farmer’s cow, or the farmer himself.

Some years ago Grunk re-purposed a collapsed riverside cave, by clearing out the rubble and building up the cave walls with stolen stone blocks that Grunk scavenged from a nearby ruined temple. After weaving a roof of thatched branches over the structure Grunk covered his new lair with the dirt that had once filled the cave when it originally collapsed. The passage of years has further concealed the underground structure as wild grass spread across the dirt roof, leaving only the exposed cave mouth as evidence of it’s presence in the landscape.

What is a Compass Point?

Our Compass Points are not self-contained adventure modules, although they could easily be turned into a mini-adventure. Instead, the objective of a Compass Point is to act as “filler” material that a Game Master can add to their campaign.

We provide all of the maps and NPC Data information, plus plot hooks and NPC motivation, but how the Compass Point is inserted into the GM’s running narrative is completely up to the GM.

The entire principle behind our Compass Points is...

“A Game Master can simply employ the Compass Point module to add a side-adventure to their campaign, while the Story Content provides context, hints, and tips.”

Guidelines

This document is a basic set of guidelines, it is not a set of rules carved in stone that must be followed to the letter. In fact, we recommend that you modify any part of the module to fit your campaign – adding or removing any components, as you feel necessary.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
