D&D 5th Edition Monster Cards

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $5.00

Disclaimer: These files contain every monster available in the D&D 5th Edition SRD, and are published under the Open Gaming License. The SRD only allows certain monsters from the Monster Manual. If you want cards for non-SRD monsters or custom content, use the blank document and build your stat library by hand.

My goodness! Index cards for every SRD monster? Yes please!

I found that I was spending a lot of time writing monster stats for planned encounters before sessions, so I premade these to speed up the process. These print to on A4 pages to be cut into A5 and A6 cards.

This project took a good few evenings to complete, so If you choose to pay $0 for the cards, that's totally okay, but if you get any use out of my work, I hope you'll consider revisiting and tipping a few bucks for the labor, or take a look at my spell cards or character sheets.

UPDATE

I've included a RAR with individual stats. This will let you print only the stats you need for your session — printing instructions are below. There are also form fillable files that you can add to your collection and print in the same way.

INDIVIDUAL PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Combine desired stat blocks into a single document with an online PDF combiner. Combine the large stats and small stats into separate documents.

2. Open combined PDF in Acrobat Reader.

3. In the print menu, select Multiple under Page Sizing & Handling

4a. For the large stats, select 2 pages per sheet and landscape orientation

4b. For the small stats, select 2 by 2 pages per sheet and landscape orientation

Hey, great product! Quick question, Im trying to reduce paper waste and want to print these on either 3x5 or 4x6 index cards, but the problem I am having is when I set up to print, regardless of the settings or paper size I select, the block either shrinks on the card and makes text too small to read or it bleeds over the edge of the card and gets cut off. Any help is appreciated.

These cards are wonderful, and I've gotten loads of use out of them, (both the pre-filled SRD ones and the blanks to fill in) so thank you! One question, what determines if you put a stat block on a small or large card? Not a problem or a concern, just wondering. As far as I can tell it's not determined by CR.

I imagine is there sheer amount of additional information that comes with said creature.

That said I have no ideas, just a guess

Wondering why make large and small card. I prefer the small ones, but can't convert large ones to small.

Lot's of people complaining about the lack of Rich Text in Adobe form-fillable.

Pro Tip: Take a screenshot of the blank card, then use that image as the background image of a LibreOffice Writer document. Fill out the card however it makes you happy. If you're really into PDF files, go ahead and export it as a PDF file (instead of the native ODT or DOC format). :D

I came to ask where the 'All Monsters' PDF file is?

I love these cards in theory, however, I really like rolling for health. Is there anyway to include an editable version of the SRD so I could change just the health portion, rather than going and remaking each card individually to change the health?

Hi Matthew. Thank you for your hard work. Just a quick question - how do I edit the entered text in the fillable form. Cant seem to adjust font, size, bold, etc?

Thanks for doing all this work! I was on my way to having all the monsters I use commonly hand-written on index cards, but now I can use my prep time as DM on other tasks. And thanks for the pay what you want option. I purchased at $0 to make sure these were what I wanted then went back and bought at $10. Well worth it! You might consider adding 1 or 2 images of the cards so people know that they are high quality and will hopefully chip in.

Hi there

Love this product, I am printing them out as needed and laminating them for use.

One small issue: possible typo on the Skeleton card it says CONDITIONS: poisoned and that's how I played it, they had disadvantage on attacks and str/dex checks (as per the poisoned condition), remembering that once upon a time skeletons had a penalty to hit for some reason.

After checking the MM it turns out that the card should read CONDITION IMMUNITIES: poisoned (lol). Sucks to be me, new to 5E....

Oh man! That's an odd one. Your players owe me a beer for accidentally making that fight easier for them :)

Having issues with the form fillable. Just like on the spell cards. The font size is fixed, and can't do any custom editing. And the upper left field next to the CR is not editable either (nice to put traits and things up there like on your original cards).

Suggestion: put CR rating in the file names.. or a CR index. I just took up the reigns as 5e dnd this last weekend without having read much other than the classes and a few feats and random sporadic rules like jumping. And .. it's not planned, it was on the spot "hey, i cant gm anymore, can someone take over?" so CR was what i had to go for if i wasnt looking at Goblins :D

It’s only supposed to be the ones from the SRD, which are the only ones that can be published under open games license.

Just a heads up - any new monsters are not legal to distribute through products like this unless added to the D&D SRD. So you can certainly make the monster cards for your own use, but Matt won't be able to add them to this product without getting licensed by WOTC

Hey!! I was going to do the exact same thing and copy all of the Curse of Strahd monsters over. Could I get copies of the ones you already filled out? WoC can kiss my butt, I've bought just about every Ravenloft / Strahd product they ever published. :P

Do these cards just use black and white ink? I really like the way they look, but would want to make sure I'm not using too much ink if I printed them off.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
