Fantaji Universal RPG: Quickstart

Suggested Price $2.00

The original beta for the Fantaji Universal Role-Playing Game, our blazing-hot new RPG title. Initially built around the idea of representing a JRPG video game on the tabletop, Fantaji quickly grew into something so much more. While the universal mechanic easily handles campaigns set in any world, any genre, this Quickstart briefly introduces our Mázaki campaign setting (one of 4 robust campaign settings found in the full corebook availabe here on DriveThruRPG).

This download includes the 24-page Quickstart, FIVE gorgeous sample characters, and THREE escalating encounters you can play with your friends!

The System

  • Conflict resolution is quick and creative while retaining a serious need for strategy! Truly cooperative and dynamic encounters at every level. The same system works within combat and without.
  • We always wanted a lightweight game that still offered depth for both creative and technical strategy. Fantaji uses a qualitative system to celebrate interesting, dynamic characters. The tile-based system can represent any kind of monster, obstacle, mystery, or objective.
  • On any turn, your character can take a Check or make an Challenge. Checks are small moves, stunts, or descriptions that use a single die to either increase your hero's momentum or throw stumbling blocks in the way of your adversaries. Challenges are opposed rolls that capitalize on built momentum and use multiple dice to directly target an obstacle or opponent.
  • Combining creative problem-solving and calculated strategy, each turn is qualitative in nature but builds on the mechanical effects of previous turns. It's really the best of both worlds.

Start playing TODAY and stay tuned on our website for updates about the project and fresh downloads.

Sorry to disagree with the others. Yes the art is great, layout is good etcetera. And it looks like if I had someone to explain things I would probably like it. But just the quick start alone is not enough to explain how it works and what so many of th [...]

I just learned how to play this game over the weekend and after only playing 2 games I'm hooked. It can be played in a small amount of time for a single event, or even made for an entire campaign! There aren't really overbearing rules that say "yo [...]

I found it to be instructive enough to really explain where the creators of this game were going with their original thoughts on the game. Really, the art is well done, although the fact that everything is separated into three different files might hav [...]

This is one of the most solid quickstarts I’ve seen. The rules are simple, yet there is an example of play in each one, in case you missed something. As for Mazaki itself, it’s a very cool game. We playtested it with some friends a couple of [...]

GMs these days have it so easy. Back in my day we were putting in a week's worth of design for a one-night affair, memorizing tables not because it was easy, but because it was the difference between success and "Let's go play quake". We had [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
