So, looking this over, I'm enjoying it. If it's still supported (new edition, more books, expansions, or whatever), I'm definitely going to be picking up a physical copy. Is this game still live? :)

This game is simply amazing. It has fun features, a good concept, and the adventure (sold seperately) is -also- gosh darn good!
The only way it could be better, in my opinion, would be if roll20 had a sheet for it, but luckly for me I have a player that was willing to make an Excel sheet for us.

I hope more adventures will be sold/made soon! Any chance you all have a website with info about ongoing projects? Or a kickstarter for a new adventure?

Hi guys! Is there anything like a world map out there? I was just going to grab a generic one off of RPGNow and use that.

Love the game so far (bought the hardback off a KS backer who needed cash and raved about Majimonsters)! Has there been any thought given to a .pdf of the monsters for printing tokens/paper miniatures (have I missed it somehow?)?

I don't know if it works for everybody, but when I open the PDF and right-click on the monster, it highlights the picture, then you copy image and paste it into Paint and you can save it in any number of formats. From there you can just make your own paper miniatures. (I use Word)

Definitely a good idea, only problem is I don't have the .pdf nor will I purchase it just to get figures. Guess it'll sit on the shelf not getting exposure to gamers out there.

Miniatures!!!
I like Trash Mob Miniatures; I like the art, and they have a bunch of guys you can snag for binders, and even some odd beasties perfect for new Monsters!

But ideally... ArcKnight. Creators of Flat Plastic Miniatures. They do front and back artwork on transparent plastic stand up minis. They'll do Binders. Monsters, civilians for towns and cities, smithys and taverns, army packs of commonly occurring baddies like bandits, swarms, normal critters, and a few of the Monsters that occur in numbers.
And for the sheer number of figures you need (Monsters alone!*) they would be a hell of a lot cheaper than any 3d mini you could find.
(*you already have the front art, all you need is the back art.)
Plus they have a gawdawful huge assortment of existing minis already! Along with props and terrain and such. We could probably just use one of their civilian sets.

Just an idea... ;)

Alright, you've kinda painted us into a corner here.
I appreciate your desire to keep the focus of the game on fighting Monster vs Monster but what are we supposed to do if there's a group with no Binders (traders, etc.) or you've already been in a number of fights and all your Monsters are healing in their Drajules, and you get attacked by yet another Monster?
Wad up the character sheet and start over?

There has to be a way for a person to fight a Monster, however inefficiently, or there would be no trade at all.

Hi Steve! You're right, a lot of the lore and game systems of MajiMonsters are designed to keep the emphasis on Monster vs. Monster combat. We discovered in early playtests this is what was healthiest for the game and how we focused as designers.

Regarding the lore, the New Empire is still in its fledgling states - trade between bastions of humanity has really only begun to flourish again. Any merchant worth their salt would certainly have a binder in tow for protection, and those that couldn't afford such services would take their lives in their hands (or, perhaps, wait for travelers to come to them). And should a group of binders find themselves in a situation where they have no Monsters to defend them, well, that is a very real risk we envisioned (the proverbial TPK, if you will). Fortunately, we've never had such a situation occur in our tests, but the threat of it should give the experience of surviving more merit.

Of course, we're huge advocates for players making the game their...See more

Wow, I'm glad this happened to hit the Deal of the Day! I didn't even know it existed!
And I'm sorry to have missed the two Kickstarters as well but now I know to keep my eyes peeled.

I don't know the background histories of either Pokimon or Digimon but from a light skimming of the preview your background seems very close to Monster Rancher, a game I dearly love. Similar with Jade Cocoon.

I've always wondered about creating such an RPG but knew it would have taken a massive amount of work! At over 300 pages I see you've done just that! Thanks!

The PDF that I've purchased of this product is not working. Every time I try to load it up I am getting an error. The Preview file works fine (though I'm not sure why that was included) but the actual DIGITAL_MajiMonsters_Core_Rulebook_9-19-16.pdf must be broken.

Hi there!

Sorry to hear your copy is not working. We've checked the file and can confirm that it is indeed working on our end. We suspect it might be an issue on your end, especially since we haven't heard from any other owners about a problem with it. Try the following:

1) Download the latest copy of Adobe Acrobat / PDF Viewer and see if that will work (the files should be compatible with most versions, however)
2) Check to see if the file did not download completely from DriveThruRPG. This would cause the file to have an error when opening. You can always download the file again from your account Library.

To answer your question about the preview file, it has to be included with the downloadables to allow us to display the custom preview you see on this product page. You can simply discard it after you download it. :)

Good luck! Please let us know if you continue to have issues.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Acrobat / PDF Viewer and it is still not working. The program is opening up other PDFs, but whenever I try to open up the MajiMonsters book it is giving me an error saying: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

I have downloaded the PDF multiple times from my library, cleared my cache, deleted and redownloaded, restarted my computer, redownloaded Adobe, etc. Nothing is working.

It may be working on your end, but it's certainly not working for me :(

Please refund this order or provide a non-corrupt file.

A question that came up during our group's character creation - what check is made during the breeding process? It says 'a hard (9) check', but doesn't specify what dice the Scholar player would be rolling. Is it just 2d6, and if so, does that mean it isn't possible in the game mechanics to become 'better' or 'more consistently successful' at MajiMonster breeding (beyond using higher-Grade Majimon)?

Hi Eleanor; glad to see you're having fun breeding MajiMonsters (one of my favorite parts of the game). You're correct, anytime a check isn't specified, it's a standard 2d6 with the listed difficulty.

We initially had the check tied to a skill and allowed MajiMonster breeding among all classes, but with the relatively small range of ability scores it was too easy to manipulate so that success was assured. We instead tied "improving" the odds with higher Grade Monsters and limited the ability to the scholar class. We found this worked the best - it was consistent without being assured, and gave the class a special quality that made it desirable on a team.

That said, we're firm believers that MajiMonsters is yours to make your own. If you want to house rule the check to a skill you can, of course, among any other homebrew rule you might come up with!

Thanks again!

Just a thought but, I can't help but notice you have rules for increasing the size of monsters but no actual explanation as to what size does mechanically? Should I just reference 5e D&D and extrapolate?

Hey Jonathan!

A Monster's size affects how much space it takes up on the battlefield (which, in turn, affects its capacity to make withdraw strikes and other tactical decisions). In addition to that, certain techniques and traits are based off a Monster's size or the size of its target / opponent.

You might want larger or smaller Monsters to capitalize on these techniques and traits, or you may want them for a purely aesthetic, role-playing angle.

Is there any plans to make a PDF file that works better with e-readers and has the Table of Content and Index linked to their respective pages? This PDF is slow to change pages and draw on my iPad, especially if I am trying to flip through it quickly to get to different sections. If I flip more than 3 pages I have to wait more than 5 seconds for the next page to load.

Thanks for your feedback, Kevin! It's currently working without issue when tested on our iPad, so we'll have to look into it. As far as linking pages from the contents and index, that's certainly something we can look into for a future update!

I have a question that the authors of this game could possibly help with. Would it be possible to get a digital template of some sort, such as a Word DOC / DOCX, Photoshop PSD / Illustrator AI / Editable PDF that we GMs could fill out for new MajiMonsters? I have an idea for one, with it written up in notepad of all things, and I would like something I can output to nice, stylised PDF for my players, so that if they start with or bind one of these monsters, they can see it at a glance.

This would be very appreciative, and I would think I am not the only GM to think of this.

Is there a way I can shoot you guys the idea for my MajiMonster? It's no way near finalised, but the general idea is a Kamaitachi.
I based it on a few different sources, and would like for it to be available for other people, as I went through the bestiary in the core rules, and didn't see one in there. I'm certain others would have different opinions on a MajiMonster based on real world folklore mixed with other sources, but that's why I want to share it.
I didn't know about the Kickstarter until July of this year, which was much too late for input, but I would like to share my creation with refinements from the developers of the system, if at all possible. I have the stats for it pretty much done, just gotta finalise its techniques and its art. I'm terrible at art, can't draw for peanuts, but I'm sure there would be a lot of inspiration out there for this monster. I would think you guys could have it drawn better than me.

Splendid! I just checked it out and im very excited about this. I have one concern and suggestion.

1-In the Combat Techniques their are drop down boxes covering some information, additionally the selection from the box are not visible.

2- One option i have seen on some other sheets to allow for more text is to make the fillable fields scroll much like a webpage as opposed to have the text get ever smaller as more info is added. This is typically a much nicer method that allows you to store much more info without having the text turn into type size 1 ;) This would likely be of particular use in areas such as combat techniques where one may want to right down the details of a technique in it entirety so they need to pull out the book.

All the same this will certainly work for now! I cant wait to run a game!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
