Hey Hey, I have a rule question and yes it is extremely petty and specific nit picking.
pg.147 "Making a weapon Master-Crafted costs 5 XP for the upgrade, since it turns the item into an artifact"
Does artefact have any specific mechanics or reference in other books as the core book has only one jitsu (The Metal Within) that references artefacts.
I'm aware that Master-Crafted Weapon Quality has mechanical benefits, but being an artefact is a by-product of buying the Master-Crafted Weapon Quality.

I ask because I play a lot of Exalted and Artifacts usually come with powers that basically Jitsus/martial and harm magic creatures, so it's made me curious if you ever expanded on artefact construction/customisation and powers based on wielding very specific styles of artefacts (Like a magic boomerang martial art)

Heyo, why does every book but the core have a POD option?

Funny you should ask that. I just realized this as well last week, and am currently awaiting a proof for the PoD option. I hope to get it up probably next week. Cheers!

I apologize if this is a dumb question but is there any clan ability or jutsu in this game that would allow a character to temporarily or permanently copy the abilities of an enemy?

Not a dumb question at all. Yup! That ability exists.

I have a rules question that I cannot find in the book and not sure if it was certified in an update. I have no way of checking as the books were a gift and not from drivethru.

How does a GM determine the movement of an npc? Their stat blocks do not state a value and because they do not follow the same set up as player characters I see no logical formula to determine it. It's silly if they can only move five feet. I may in fact be blind or just managing to miss it ever read through

Page 137 seems to have the most logical solution for this. If a PC does not take Athletics or Speed, their movement per round would be 5. Otherwise, assign a couple of points of Athletics and/or Speed on any NPC you makevas in the NPC rules. Remember, it's per round movement, so unless a specific jutsu is involved, it's probably not going to be outrageous.

Also, as a GM, you could just fudge in an average- 7 for mooks, 9 for regular bad guys, etc.

I'm very intrigued so far. I've noticed a print +pdf version for the sourcebooks, but not the main. Are there plans for a (new run) print copy anytime soon?

We have the print version available on our own website thirdeyegames(dot)net. Gotta sell through those before we go to PoD here on DTRPG. Though, we are pretty close to the end of our stock. Now's the time to grab one. :-)

One more question, sorry. On page 154 it says "Sturdy Fist is also a Basic Jutsu and will roll Yang 2 + Fighting 3. She also gets +1 Fighting from her Assailant Gift since she is currently outnumbered (11 against 3). Rolling her 6 dice, she gets 2, 2, 4, 6, 7, 10 (3 successes). That is a success and means she gets to make an immediate close combat attack with a +2 bonus. Since that was successful, Ryan now rolls for his follow-up attack with Fighting 3 + Speed 4 + 1 for 8 dice total." Because her Sturdy Fist Jutsu worked, shouldn't that be 10 dice total?

Actually, yes and no. She should have 10 dice (fixing that now), but the Guards are Trained Guards, which do have Defense 6 (note there are Simple and Trained guard types).

In the future, questions like this are probably best directed to our G+ community: https://plus.google.com/communities/118083262044779835739

I'm sorry, I have another question. How does deflecting ranged attacks work? The paired absolute defense level 3 passive implies there is normally some sort of penalty to doing it, while the sharp passive splitting arrows implies firearms are somehow different from other ranged weapons. Meanwhile, the entry on the Imperial Battallion implies anyone can parry arrows with a Dynamic Action. What exactly are the rules on parrying ranged attacks?

The rules for parrying (Blocking) ranged attacks is that you need Splitting Arrows or Absolute Defense (or one of a few other jutsu) to do so. Otherwise, you'll need to Dodge (if it's within Close or Near Range) or Find Cover (for further distances).

Excuse me, but are martial art effects constant and passive when you are unarmed, or do you need to activate them like a Jutsu? The Dice mastery section shows someone rolling dice to activate Tiger Claws, but the martial arts section makes no mention of duration for virtually any of its abilities. When you take into account all the buffs in Way of the Warrior, it looks like an unarmed character could spend so much time activating buffs that they have no time left to attack. Do martial arts abilities consume Ki?

Eloy L September 06, 2016 12:57 am UTC
PUBLISHER
Fighting Styles do not require any kind of activation and do not consume Ki, unless otherwise stated.

In the Battle Example, Rika uses Tiger's Claws, which is a Basic Jutsu from the Way of Inked Skin on page 127, and is pretty different from the Tiger Claws Technique under Tiger Style on page 71. It's an obvious confusion due to the similarities of the names.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Characters can take either physical or mental damage, but that damage can be converted into Conditions (like Pain, Poison, Embarrassed, Dazed, etc.) to keep them from hitting their thresholds for possible death.

No worries looked quick start guide and google page. it looks like conditions can be applied with weapons based on boost also. It does not look like health is very high in the game. Maybe 6 to 12. Saw some higher health but that looked like it was a squad. Plan on getting several copies core and the PDFs. Game looks good.

There's a lot more going on than just "Rounds", even more than 1st edition's tick system. I'd say give it a chance and see why we went with the new system. :)

Is it possible for you to add some version of shortened quick start rules and permission to translate them would be nice.
i am thinking about using your product to help grow the role playing community in my country by appealing to the children who grew up on anime and manga...
i have already began talks with the local role playing community and it seems so far like a good idea.
Also in your opinion what is the best way to attract new players to your product who have watched naruto and bleach but for them d&d is the lord of the rings movie and have no idea who Conan is...
In addition i would like to solicit from you a donation of a hard or soft cover book or 2 for the local community and children. If you decide that would intrest you i would be happy to give your contact info to our local non profit in charge of promoting role playing games in our country...

thanks in advance...

Loving the PDF. The story and setting is amazing, but for a first time roleplay group I'm having trouble coming up with a cool campaign (first time GM also). I'm sure we'll get used to it. Can't wait for those expansions and stuff, instabuy for me

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
