Battle Century G

Big Heroes, Fast Pacing and Dramatic Plays

Battle Century G is a Roleplaying Game for 4-7 Players in the style of Mecha anime and videogames. Big Heroes means the Player Characters are badasses on par with any main character from Mecha fiction. The Fast Pacing is because battles never slow down only getting faster with each passing minute. Finally, combat revolves around making Dramatic Plays through flashy combos, secret techniques, and using weapons inventively.

Battle Century G has style. Super robots powered by the sun and mass-produced suits of power armor both play using the same set of rules. The game is effects-based, so how you do something does not matter as much as what you do. And what you do is pilot a kickass Mecha, command a badass Battleship, or ride a terrifying Kaiju.

Battle Century G has substance. You have to think about your options, choosing your loadout of weapons and how to tackle the challenges that the GM throws at you. What worked against your Rival the last time might not work again, this time they might be prepared. It is a game for smart players who like overcoming difficult challenges.

Not for now, because Monsterpunk's keeping me busy enough as is. After MP, though, it'll be either a new game or more BCG. I'll see when I get there.

Ì am interested in Mech rules I can adapt to my needs for Traveller. Since I cannot find any example of the base mechanics for this RPG, anyone also play Traveller and have a good idea how usable this material would be in a Traveller game?

How does this game handle out-of-mech combat? If at all?

It uses similar rules to the mecha combat but it's easily the worst part of the system, as most of the focus was put on the mechs themselves. If out of mech combat is a dealbreaker for you I would suggest to make another set of mechs and use those for foot combat (it's easily adapted, so that's not a problem, or you could make them power armor).

Or to play a different game, but I'm not really supposed to say that.

It should be noted that one fix to "out of mech" combat is to just stat players up as mechs as well. I hear that is a perfectly suitable fix.

I was kind of disappointed to find there to be a lack of features or systems regarding Kaiju or Battleships, as indicated in the synopsis blurb. I have a unique setting in mind, and the system works for most of what I have in mind, save for the PC that would be riding a Kaiju instead of piloting a Mechanical. Any tips?

Page 117 has the Biological feature along with a few other features for unusual units. It has a very debilitating downside though, so I would recommend using Power Suit instead which is very similar but less harrowing to the user.

Carriers use the Base Unit feature and most sci fi battleships would also use the Flyer feature. The page 87 sidebar also tells you how to transform the four mech areas into battleship areas.

How does transformation/morphing work and how the cost is calculated. Like if you wanted three different modes... Jet, gerwalk, robot.

You first take transformation twice and that gives you 3 forms to work with. One of these will be your default form, you use the stats of that form as the base when you switch stats around with your other forms.

You then take superior morphing. That gives each form 10 MP in unique features, external upgrades and weapons. You have spent 40 MP on all this and you 'get back' 30 MP, with your 3 forms getting 10 MP each in unique abilities. With features that grant flight or terrain specialization, you can make up the difference.

I would recommend instead taking transformation just once (for a plane form) and just describing some of your turns as being an in-between form/gerwalk. This way you spend 30 MP, with both forms being reimbursed 10 MP and the only features you really need are flyer and land specialization anyway. It costs less, is easier to keep track of and you don't juggle stats as much.

How does Invasive work? If I deal 3 and 2 damage over consecutive turns, does it trigger?

It has to be all at once. Basically, you have to do 10 damage in one go, then it gets cut to 5 and the pilot takes damage.

I've been planning a Super Robot Wars campaign but am looking for the best system. This might fit the bill.

This one is pretty good for that, you could also try OVA or Valor, although with Valor, it's going to need a bit of tweaking. All three capture the right anime feeling, through different approaches.

While I have yet to get a group together to play, I find the rules to be rules lite and easy to understand. I would recommend this game to anyone in need of a mecha rpg that is less simulation yet good amount of structure.

As someone who has followed this game since it's older edition, Giant Guardian Generation, was first posted, if you're a fan of mecha you owe it to yourself to get this game. It's a fun, fast system designed for customization and ease of use. Everything in it can be refluffed as you please, and it's pretty easy to see the moving parts of a system, where they go, and how they work.

But at the same time, things can be surprisingly clever and innovative in how these simple parts are used. It's more of a toolkit to build your own mecha campaign than anything else, and a very good one at that. If you don't like complicated math, but do like fast paced fun and clever, tactical thinking, Battle Century G is worth all 1000 pennies.

Don't have the money to leave a review, so this will have to do, but first chance I get I am getting a copy of this game.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
